Amazon.com Review Ultra-fierce and unbelievably fun, the D-REX Interactive Dinosaur is a cool, prehistoric creature with a personality all his own. Designed to keep kids eight and up entertained for days, this robotic D-REX moves, roars, and responds to your child's voice and touch. A bone-shaped controller even lets you "train" him as a guard dinosaur or an attack pet.

Get Ready for Realistic, Imaginative Fun Right out of the box, this scaly pet D-REX feels more authentic than most other dinosaur toys on the market. His rubbery, reptilian skin is loosely stretched to accommodate movement, and he has a slightly strange texture that is soft to the touch. While his oversized feet and a fun spiked collar balance his menacing teeth and his darting yellow eyes, he is still a little scary looking. Don't worry--you'll soon discover that he has a sense of humor and a soft spot for anyone willing to scratch the back of his head.
Before you start getting to know D-REX personally, you'll need to use a Phillips screwdriver to insert five "C" batteries in his tail and two "AAA" batteries in the bone-shaped controller. Once he's powered up, D-REX is ready to start showing off and responding to his surroundings. He'll roar, turn his head, and blink his eyes.
Cool Robotics Technology for Interactive Play When you pet D-REX on the head, touch sensors let him respond with an appreciative roar. If he seems hungry, you can stick something in his mouth and he'll chomp away on it. And the bone-shaped controller lets you prompt five different types of behavior. Press "attack," and he'll launch forward while roaring. Press "prank," and he'll fart, burp, or roar. In seek mode, he uses a noise sensor to locate you and walk towards you. Due to the room's background noise, we found that he had some difficulty with this task. But it was funny (and kind of cute) when he bumped into walls and backed away in surprise.
Perhaps our favorite mode was "guard." In this mode, you can set D-REX up in front of your bedroom door or your favorite toys and he will scan the room, letting out a big roar if he detects the motion of "intruders." There's even a question mode that lets you replace your out-dated magic eight ball with dinosaur wisdom. Each time you press this button, D-REX will answer a question by nodding "Yes" or shaking his head "No."
D-REX is programmed to respond as a pet with an independent mind. This means that, despite his five-button remote, he won't walk where ever you want him to. Kids who expect to "drive" him around the room like a remote control car may be disappointed, but we actually enjoyed this fact a lot, since it made him more realistic. And we expect that kids who are fascinated by either dinosaurs or robotics will agree with us on this. As an added bonus, D'REX offers a battery-saving sleep mode, which parents are sure to appreciate.

D-Rex rocks Upon speaking to Santa, my 7-year-old son could only remember one toy on the list he'd given me...D-Rex. Even though he received numerous toys on Christmas morning, D-Rex was the first one he spotted. D-Rex was the main one he played with. "D-Rex is my best toy of all," he said. It is now almost two weeks after Christmas...and he still plays with D-Rex...unlike some of his other toys.
It's fun to collect these 1:55-scale, die-cast action-sized vehicles!

Love my Mater!!! I had been looking for six months for a Mater to finish my 12 yr. old daughter's collection of "Cars" action figure vehicles. I was desperate when I started looking online. I ordered Mater and then hoped it would be on time! It came just in time, considering I ordered it last minute! My daughter was so excited!!! It was the highlight of her Christmas!

Great gadget if you have internet My daughter got this for Christmas and unfortunately we could not start using it as we did not have internet on our PC at home -- there was nothing on the package to warn us about this. Also, the software that sets up the link to the internet works only with PC -- again the package doesn't warn about this. We did get a link working simply by plugging it into our Mac laptop, so it is nowfinally working. We use it with iTunes, which the manual says is not possible.
She now loves it and would take it everywhere if we let her. So what if it only holds 100 songs without purchasing another card! For an 8 year old, that is more than enough as she is still into playing the same songs over and over and over again. It may be bigger than regular MP3 players, but still fits into the pocket of her hoodie.
She also received an iDog to use with it, which I would strongly recommend if you are concerned about the effect on your child's hearing of using the earbuds. We will likely switch her to regular headphones which are considered to be much safer.

Where's the power cord? Was happy to see these out again. Then I read the box and saw you needed batteries to use it. They could have at least made it like the original, especially when you look at the high cost. I bought the Pacific 8 set in 1971 for $10. It came with two cars, dual speed esses, dual banked curves, a lap counter and a power pit that plugged into a 110 volt wall outlet. I didn't get a Juice Machine then because it used batteries. Once again in the name of nostalgia and so a three year old can use it we get price gouged and it's not even close to the original superior product.

Shell Shocker - Good fun, lots of laughs, durable The Shell Shocker is fun, durable and the battery pack has a good long charge. The only down side is that it takes four hours to recharge the battery, making it difficult for kids to wait for the next round of fun!
Editorial ReviewOne of the most expensive aspects of radio-controlled model motoring is the cost of replacement batteries. This battery pack and charger can save heavy R/C users a bundle in disposable power sources. Tyco guarantees this quality ni-cad battery pack--rechargeable up to 1,000 times--to be the longest running available (run times vary greatly with speed and power usage of R/C vehicle). The recharging unit plugs into any standard 110-120 volt wall socket and fully charges the battery pack within 4 hours. Comes with a limited, 90-day warranty. --Jerry McCulley

RIDICULOUS!! I guess I join the league of others who purchased a Tyco toy this Christmas. I purchased the Grave Digger R/C truck and found out on that morning that it needed a seperate battery pak that was not included. All remote controll units I had previously purchased had this item included. It is now March and I still can't find one of these items. I've checked 3 different WalMart stores with no luck. I'd take the darn thing back to the store, but I ordered it over the internet. And he doesn't want something else - he wants this one! Sad to see a grandson so unhappy. Poohie on Tyco. Your'e worse than Mattel !!
