Wii Music
Wii Music
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $39.99

Amazon.com When it comes to music and rhythm games, Wii Music stands in a class of its own. Unlike other music games, which penalize players if they don't play perfectly, Wii Music is a musical playground where there are no mistakes. Here anyone can pick up and master the huge array of instruments available, through simple motions like strumming and drumming. Musicians in your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart's content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music.

Gameplay: Getting Your Band Together
In Wii Music every band has six members: Two play the main melody, two cover the percussion beats, one covers the bass groove and one uses the song's chords to support the melody. As a band, the six members often play their special parts at the same time, though each player can jam however and whenever he or she wants. Play all at once. Take turns in the spotlight. Pair up in creative ways throughout the song. You can bring the band to life by yourself, playing one part at a time-or with up to four players. See game mode below:

  • Solo Play: When you play by yourself, you can add one part at a time to arrange the whole song exactly how you want. The Tutes are on hand to back up your band in any parts you need filled.
  • Multiplayer: When in a band with friends, up to four people can be band members.
  • Wii Friends: Using WiiConnect24, you can send your jam videos to Wii Friends who own Wii Music. They can then watch your performance, modify it to their liking and send their jam videos back to you.
Tutes: Your Own Private Back-up Band
When not playing with friends, you can invite jam masters known as Tutes to play with you. They'll join a session playing an instrument that each thinks is strong for a specific song. You can simply enjoy the musical camaraderie, or pick up instrument tips by watching them jam. If you choose to watch, the Tutes will show you lots of techniques for many of these instruments, then ask you to follow their examples. They'll start with the simplest techniques, then as you master each one, show you even more nuanced ones.

Key Game Features:

  • Easy to Play Improv Jams - All members of your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart's content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. Wii Music challenges you to transform your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes and no game scores-just playing for the pure joy of playing.
  • Wii Controls Immerse You in the Music - You can play most of the 60-plus instruments in Wii Music using simple motions with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Strum to play guitar, banjo and sitar. Drum to play jazz drums, congas and snare drums. Hammer away to play piano, vibraphone and marimba. Unlike most music games, Wii Music doesn't make you use many complex buttons. You only need to imitate playing the instrument.
  • Virtually Endless Ways to Make Music - You choose the song and instruments and decide whether to blaze through a rock take on classical songs, put a jazzy spin on folk tunes or transform Nintendo classics like the Super Mario Bros. theme into Latin-flavored numbers. The song list is only a takeoff point-it's how you improvise with the songs that matters.
  • Share Your Band Jams With Friends - They'll see your Mii band members, your players' improv styles and your instrument selections. They can watch your recordings, or play over parts of your song, then send their modified recording back to you. So you can send improv jams back and forth over WiiConnect24, changing them again and again.
60+ Instruments
You can play most of the 60-plus instruments in Wii Music using simple motions with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Strum to play guitar, banjo and sitar. Drum to play jazz drums, congas and marching drums. Hammer away to play piano, vibraphone and marimba. Unlike most music games, Wii Music doesn't make you use complex buttons. You only need to imitate playing the instrument. Wii Music offers virtually endless ways to make music.

Fun Beyond the Jam
Designed with classic Wii gameplay in mind, Wii Music includes many other modes and play options besides the main band jams, including several musical games and an enhanced video playback mode for recorded jams.

  • Videos Mode: Watch your jam videos in an enhanced playback mode that brings your jams to life with fun environmental effects and dramatic camera angles.
  • Mii Maestro: By waving the Wii Remote like a conductor's baton in this mini-game, you'll lead a Mii orchestra through orchestrated songs, such as The Legend of Zelda theme. Make them play quickly, slowly, strongly or gently-the orchestra is at your command.
  • Handbell Harmony: In this musical mini-game, you'll play in a handbell ensemble by swinging your Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Everyone on the team has a job to do: play one of your notes only when the tune demands it.
  • Pitch Perfect: How good is your musical ear? In this whimsical musical quiz, you'll have to solve challenges, like putting note-playing Miis in order from lowest to highest pitch.
  • Drum Mode: In the one mode that uses the Wii Balance Board accessory (sold with Wii Fit), you can feel what it's like to play a real-life drum set. You'll use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as drumsticks, and place both feet on the Wii Balance Board-which work as virtual pedals for the bass drum and hi-hat cymbal.

Disappointed
As a grandmother, I buy games for the grandkids, aged 6 to 18. The smaller kids couldn't really understand it and lost interest quickly and the the older kids found it annoying. I am of no help as I'm just a "watcher". Rather annoying to me.

Hannah Montana: Music Jam
Hannah Montana: Music Jam
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $25.00

Help Hannah live out her dreams of becoming a pop star by using the Nintendo DS touch screen to master instruments including lead, bass, rhythm guitars, and drums.

Was expecting more...
I bought this product for my 9 year old daughter who loves Hannah Montana. I thought this one was going to be a hit! But no, not at all. It doesn't have that many activities, in fact you get to play the entire game with everything in it fairly easy and pretty quick. So after a while kids get BORED! My daughter doesn't play this game any more, and she has told me this is not a good game at all. She stills love Hannah Montana, but doesn't like this game..never did!

Rhythm 'n Notes: Improve Your Music Skills
Rhythm 'n Notes: Improve Your Music Skills
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $17.95

A perfect mixture of fun and education, Rhythm 'n Notes has something to offer gamers and musicians of all ages. This unique title offers tonal and rhythmic music training in the form of entertaining piano and drumming games. No matter what your musical background or tastes, Rhythm 'n Notes is for you. A wide variety of note lessons encourages you to recognize and identify not only notes but also complex chords. Rhythm exercises teach and test the fundamentals of keeping time as well as advanced rhythmic patterns. Starting lessons initiate the beginner, while advanced levels keep experts on top of their game. Open practice mode allows you to familiarize yourself with all notes and chords, both by name and sound. There is a mix of gameplay elements as you learn the fundamentals of music composition. Drumming consists of actual tapping on the DS touchpad with the stylus to the beat of the rhythm in order to succeed. When it comes time to tickle the ivories, then a good ear is needed to match the proper tones. Work your way through all the levels and unleash your inner maestro.

Not what I expected
I love music and when I saw this game I thought what a great way to increase my musical knowledge. This game was not what I expected. I was hoping to do more then learn chords by ear. I lost interest long before I even got to the notes. The rhythm section was a bit better but you just listen to a rhythm and repeat it. I thought it might teach more about playing rhythms or reading note patterns. It was a disappointment to me.

fun, fun, fun but not for the price
The game was really fun to play. The thing I don't like is that it only gives you three games to play and you can only play them one time only. The questions are the same and don't change. The price could be lower. I think I would consider buying more games if the price was right.

MTV Music Generator
MTV Music Generator
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $19.99

Editorial ReviewYo, DJ wannabes: mix your mad medley of music by using this creativity tool for the PlayStation. Don't mistake this disc for a game--it's a song creator that acts as a 24-track mixing machine.

But there are limitations to this hip tool--namely memory space, which on the PlayStation is scant at best. Still, the disc itself contains over 1,500 pre-recorded musical riffs and over 3,000 instrument sounds for you to mix and match as you like. Once the basic music is laid down, players can tinker with the sounds, adding effects such as reverb. In addition, the MTV Music Generator enables budding artists to sample music from their own audio CDs, but this is where the memory problem comes into play, limiting your samples to mere seconds.

No prior knowledge of music theory or editing is required to play with this disc, and when using the pre-recorded music snippets, which are varied and numerous, the resulting songs can be quite amazing. While this piece of software may be better suited for a PC with a fat hard disk full of storage space, MTV Music Generator is a completely original title for the PlayStation, and it manages to cleverly use the system's capability to play music in a unique way. --Jeff Young

Pros:

  • Easy to operate--no music experience or editing required
  • One of the only discs for the PlayStation that encourages creativity
  • Much fuller content than other music tools aimed at younger children
Cons:
  • Limited memory may frustrate users who want to sample their personal music collection

Great service
I want to tell you first of all that when I ordered this program I made the mistake of not specifying what platform. I didn't realize that I was suppose to order for the pc and that it was advertising for the playstation. When I received it I got a playstation version. The people at this company are so caring that I sent it back after calling them and even though they didn't advertise for the pc version they located one in their back stock and sent it tome immediately. What service!!!!!

MTV Music Generator 3: This is the Remix
MTV Music Generator 3: This is the Remix

Lowest Price we can find: $13.90

MTV Music Generator 3: This Is The Remix helps you create the next hot songs. From hip-hop to trance, you'll have thousands of samples available to you, for incredible self-produced music.

Woo Hoo
This is a really good game...In a world where good games are really bad. It wouldn't be so bad if it retained the name Music generator 2 and just call it a remix. Because that's basically all you can do that's worth your trouble. To actually constitute that it's another game in the series is superfluous because of how the game actually presents itself. I have to say though i didn't really go into detail search on the actual game itself, although, some of the details i read prior to purchasing were misleading. Getting to the point, the game has an elaborate library of riffs but they are separated by artist/genre, which you have to choose at the very beginning of creating "your own" composition. The point of continuing a game in a series is to improve upon and to try different things, not to take away features which made it's previous installments so intriguing. All be it smoother and more user friendly some of the technicalities have been removed; such as the sample library, which contains all the samples in the game itself. Then from those samples you can edit them fully (pitch, effect, bevel, etc...)to your liking with the 5 octave key-based palette, which gives you a better opportunity to be original and unique. The riff editor was one of the better features shown in the first two games. The Editor in this game has only one octave and a select few samples to choose from all of which are, from what I've seen, unchangeableas far as the actual sample is concerned. There is a WAV edit section but it's not as elaborate as the one in 2. Although somewhat minuscule it was still a crucial feature to me being as I like to make all the riffs in my songs. Although if you would like to remix your favorite Pop, Rap, or techno song of their choosing i recommend this game. The game itself isn't that bad i just wished it was more like the second because of the afore mentioned complaints. Mainly, the only thing is their is no library of all the samples and that was the beauty of it. Sometimes i have no idea what i'm going to do until i hear some samples and then things just come to me, so the choose a genre first addition doesn't really please me. Supposedly you can record around 8 seconds per wav from your own Cd provided it's audio, which is a good idea but it's almost not worth it if i can't fully obtain and edit riffs to max out the production. I guess i just feel im doing a mediocre job given only a portion of what the game has to offer, especially compared to the second generator. Of course it's smooth and everthing fits together but there's only so many options you can do. Well I guess I'm through venting on the subject i just wanted to let people know. It's an alright game for the remix meisters out there but i recommend the second over the third personally.
::opinion:: Ultimate game
-Complete library with 10,000+ Samples
-Riff editor with 86+ key palette+tech options

-Cd Record ability with USB compatibility (if possible, for Mp3 transfer)
-Video Library
-Microphone for vocal sampling (or anything else for that matter)
-8 player jam session
-increased visual options (vertical, horizontal, graphics, etc)
-Everything else I missed

MTV Music Generator 2
MTV Music Generator 2
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $19.99

Amazon.com ReviewIf you have a PS2 and a lot of patience, you can now produce beats with MTV Music Generator 2 that are phatter than Fatboy Slim's, more melodious than Quincy Jones's, and that can get dancers moving like you're the long-lost sibling of the Chemical Brothers. OK, maybe not, but even the most musically inept individual can produce a (somewhat) listenable tune with this powerful music tool.

Boasting more than 48 channels and 10,000 samples that vary in genre--including rock--MTVMG 2 is a small recording studio on a disc. You can either paste the samples together or alter them somewhat for creating more original sounds. Sadly, mouse support, which could have made navigating the many screens and menus less painful, is sorely lacking. Many of the instrumental samples we heard sounded quite sharp; however, the vocals were universally awful. The video-creation tool is a cute feature for making forgettable psychedelic light shows. If you're serious about creating music, you must purchase the optional USB sampler accessory, which allows input from most audio sources into your songs.

While the sequel does feature some much-needed improvements over the original program, MTVMG 2 hasn't evolved enough from its predecessor to get a solid recommendation. Still, it's the only one of its kind for a video game console, and we like that even musical laymen can use it to make surprisingly decent tunes. --Mark Brooks

Pros:

  • Thousands of samples taken from many musical genres for you to manipulate
  • Powerful tool that fulfills its promises for the patient
Cons:
  • Not intuitive
  • Cumbersome interface
  • Vocal samples are horrible--all of them

An above average music tool
if you are a big music fan and know alot about how music works and how to create it, this game might be a little too boring for you. this game may last you up to 3 days at the most, but eventually you'll grow tiresome of this tool and want to move on to bigger and better things, like i have. this game used to be my prime tool for making what i thought was good music, but when you take a look at all the other stuff out there, this is very minor. if you're just starting out making music, this would be a fun tool for you to mess around with, and it's not too difficult to get started. so my recommendation would be for advanced users to pass this one by, but not so advanced users might wanna check it out.

Wii Nunchuk Controller
Wii Nunchuk Controller
Price: Check Pricing & Availability
Lowest Price we can find: $15.28

Amazon.comThe Wii Nunchuk controller is a secondary controller that adds even more innovation to the next generation of gaming, and does it all with less physical movement.

Used in conjunction with the standard Wii remote, certain games need the Nunchuk controller for additional control options. Contoured perfectly to fit a player's hand,

The Wii Nunchuk (left) connects directly to the Wii remote. View larger.
the Nunchuk controller builds on the simplicity of the Wii Remote controller. The Nunchuk contains the same three-axis motion sensor found in the Wii Remote, but also includes an analog stick, and two buttons to help assist in character movement.

Many games will allow you to control your character's movement with the Nunchuk in your left hand, while your right hand is free to execute the action movements with the Wii Remote. For example, the Nunchuk is particularly useful for games like Wii Boxing. You can use the Nunchuk to punch with your weaker hand, while you use the Wii remote to punch and jab with your predominant hand.

Take the fun to the next level with two-handed control of your games. View larger.
In first-person shooters, the Nunchuk controller carries the burden of movement, freeing you to aim and fire using a more natural motion with the Wii Remote. In a football game, you can make your quarterback elusive with the Nunchuk controller while you search for an open receiver to throw to using the Wii Remote. Serious gamers may even want to use two Nunchuk controllers to gain a fierce competitive edge.

Because the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers are only relatively dependent on each other, players are free to hold them in whichever hand is most comfortable. Perfectly suitable for either right or left-hand use, the Wii Nunchuk controller grants accessibility not often seen in previous game controllers.

Also, the Nunchuk controller doesn't need its own power--it plugs into the Wii Remote controller when it's in use. So there's no need to worry about charging or replacing expensive batteries.

Adding a Nunchuk to your Wii system will definitely help you open the doors to the next level of gaming, and seriously step up performance. Just be careful not to knock out your significant other, or bruise the dog, severely, while using one, or two Nunchuk controllers.

Satisfied and happy to be gaming
The product arrived on time, worked well and is working well. My kids love it. Thank you

Hand Gestures and New Gimmicks
Although loaded all the familiar mat mashing DDR fun, in utilizing the motion sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote, DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 2 also brings new moves to the floor in the form of Hand Gestures and Gimmicks. Hand gestures require players to keep time to the rhythm of songs, beyond the step pattern they dance to, by shaking the Wii Remote or Nunchuck. In effect this adds a third dimension to the traditional front to back/side to side gameplay, resulting in an even more full-body experience. In addition, if players so choose they can also up their difficulty level through Gimmicks. Through these players can briefly alter the game's UI--for example delaying the appearance of on-screen arrows--forcing them to rely on their rhythm instead of screen prompts and in the process pick up major bonuses.

Key Game Features:

  • All-new soundtrack includes smash-hits from the last 4 decades as well as Konami originals, boss battle songs and videos.
  • Dance mat included with game.
  • 1-4 player support.
  • Cool new modes and features:
    • Your Mii can now be incorporated onto the DanceDanceRevolution dance floor.
    • Brand-New Gimmicks, such as the Minimizer, add to the next evolution in DanceDanceRevolution gameplay.
    • More Wii mote interaction in the Dance n' Defend Battle Mode where players use Wii mote movements to beat their opponents.
    • Nonstop dance action with the new Course Mode, various set themed song lists that players dance along to.
    • Unlock hidden features in the Groove Arena Mode as you battle your way to the top of this new venue.
    • Learn real dance moves and practice the same routines as the characters from all different angles with the brand new Hottest Training Mode.
    • All new DanceDanceRevolution characters with new outfits, exclusive to Hottest Party 2.
  • Enhanced motion capture will be applied to all characters for increased realism and customization.
  • New stages with enhanced effects, with more than 50 unique dance environments.
The New Hottest Training Mode
Finally, DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 2 also includes a new lesson track system. Unlike the tutorial tracks in previous releases that relied heavily on text explanations, here players new to DDR gameplay will enjoy both video and audio encouragement and direction from their own on-screen instructor. As "left, right"…"front, back" etc. are called out all dance floor newbies have to do to place their feet accordingly on the mat and there you have it. You've joined the DanceDance revolution. So, whether you are new to the DDR universe, or a master of the disco ball, get ready to become the life of the party, the Hottest Party, with DanceDanceRevolution Hottest Party 2 for the Wii gaming system.
