Radio Disney gives young artists a national stage
New daily feature, Next Big Thing gives listeners a chance to vote for new artists.

Radio Disney will launch a multi-platform daily programming feature, "Next Big Thing" (“N.B.T.”), that puts the spotlight on young recording artists and provides them a platform to get their music heard on a national basis. Debuting on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, "N.B.T." introduces new, unsigned talent to Radio Disney listeners and invites those listeners to look, listen and vote for their favorite new artist at RadioDisney.com or by texting NBT to DISNEY (347639) on web-enabled cell phones. The new artist with the most votes will perform at an exclusive Radio Disney concert. Photos, two full songs and interviews with all new artists will be available at RadioDisney.com and the “N.B.T.” mobile website.

Stars who have launched multi-faceted careers with a strong assist from Radio Disney include Jonas Brothers, Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Alyson and Amanda Michalka, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Raven-Symone and The Cheetah Girls (Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan and Kiely Williams).

Michael Riley, senior vice president and general manager, Radio Disney, said: "We're giving kids and families a chance to hear talented new singers and songwriters and to share their opinion on the music, and we're providing budding young artists with wide exposure on our powerful broadcast and online media platforms."

"N.B.T." artists will be featured every two weeks over a 22-week period. The "N.B.T." winner will be announced Monday, March 30, 2009.

Radio Disney is the No. 1, 24-hour radio network devoted to kids, tweens and families. Kids help pick the music that is played and are encouraged to interact via a toll-free phone line to the Radio Disney studio. The network's current playlist, driven by listener requests and representing major record labels, includes recording artists Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Jordin Sparks, Jesse McCartney, The Cheetah Girls and Mitchel Musso. The network is available to 97% of the U.S., which includes over 50 terrestrial radio stations. It is also available via RadioDisney.com, XM and Sirius satellite radio, iTunes Radio Tuner, XM/DIRECTV and mobile phones. Radio Disney has a sister network in Latin America. Its brand extensions include multiple Radio Disney Jams CDs from Walt Disney Records and iTunes Music Store offerings.
