A Midsummer Night's Dream
Middlesex, NJ (April
02,2009) - The School of Performing Arts at Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School is
happening in Middlesex, New Jersey! EAST BRUNSWICK, March 9, 2009 - The popular Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream will be presented at Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School April 2 - 4 at 7 pm. The performance, featuring students from the School of Performing Arts, will take place in the school's theater at the east end of the campus. Free parking is available on site, at Summerhill Road and Rues Lane in East Brunswick
Tickets are $15 for the general public, $5 for students K-12 and performing arts professionals. All K-12 teachers and administrators are welcome to come free of charge.
Tickets are available at the school. To reserve tickets or for further information call 732-407-4066 or email maladren@gmail.com.
The production relocates the action to present-day New Jersey, replacing the play's Athenian palace with an upper crust college. The "lovers" -- two young couples looking to escape parental authority -- run away to a skater park beneath a highway overpass, filled with graffiti and mischievous fairies on wheels.
While the play's comic plot twists and enchanting characters has delighted audiences for centuries, its exploration of people's artistic impulses and their need to break out of routines in order to find themselves has raised plenty of questions about humanity's creative impulse.
Professionals working alongside the students include Lea Anello, who designed the set, as well as actors Steve Jones, Francesca Day and Tim Regan. Regan is also designing the show's lights.
Jones, who performed in last year's Broadway production of Julius Caesar, will portray Theseus and Oberon. Day (Hippolyta, Titania) recently earned a masters degree in classical acting from a London theater conservatory. Regan (Egeus, Flute) currently performs in George Street Playhouse's educational tour.
The show's cast and crew is made up of students from across Middlesex County. Javier Aladren (Demetrius) and Gabe Spector (Lysander) come from Highland Park. Daniel Baker (Bottom) is from Woodbridge. Lindsay Andreanszky (Cobweb) resides in Monroe.
Casey Chartier and Fiona Garretson, both of South River, play Hermia and Helena, respectively. Allison McCabe (Mustardseed) is from Sayreville.
Emily Kates (Philostrate, Peaseblossom) is a Milltown resident. Assistant director Hope Wondowsky, who also plays Peter Quince, comes from Dunellen.
Katelin Perry (Puck) of Carteret, Chelsea Moroski (Starveling) of Old Bridge and Megan Shook (Snug) of Spotswood round out the cast.
Costumes were designed by student Scarlett Menendez of Carteret. Other School of Performing Arts students collaborated to compose music for the production.
Director Maria Aladren is the resident teacher for the School of Performing Arts theater program. Before coming to the program, she was the artistic director for Pegasus 51/Theatre in Austin, Texas.
. This event
will take place in Middlesex County on April
02,2009 at 112 Rues Ln. East Brunswick NJ.

Across the Solar System
Morris, NJ (April
01,2009) - Randolph Library is
happening in Morris, New Jersey! Fasten your seatbelts as we embark on a fascinating voyage across the solar system on Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m.! John Andrews of the New Jersey Astronomical Association will be at the helm as we begin at the medium-sized star we call the Sun and continue through our planetary neighborhood, the Solar System. Your virtual odyssey incorporates stunning astrophotos from space probes, land-based telescopes and the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope. Earth is a mere dust mote among them circling in the narrow habitable zone around our star. Our visit to each of the other planets will reveal the harsh reality of being too close or too far from the sun. We will see the surface of Venus photographed by the Russian Venera probes and the recent photos of the surface of Saturn’s moon, Titan. The red planet, Mars, is under continual surveillance by orbiting satellites and two robots on its surface, providing us with magnificent up-to-date photographs. But the gravity of our star actually reaches far beyond distant Pluto to the tenuous star dust in the Oort Cloud, a source of many of our comets. Register by calling (973) 895-3556 during library hours.. This event

Adam Zagajewski
Monmouth, NJ (April
21,2009) - Adam Zagajewski is
happening in Monmouth, New Jersey! Adam Zagajewski April 22, 2009 4:30pm Adam Zagajewski is an internationally acclaimed poet who was born in Poland, immigrated to France, and now teaches in Houston, Texas. Though he writes in Polish, several of his poetry collections have been translated into English, including Tremor (1985), Canvas (1991), and Mysticism for Beginners (1997). Zagajewski has been awarded the Berliner Kunstler Program fellowship, the Kurt Tucholsky Prize, a Prix de la Liberte, and a Guggenheim fellowship. His essays have been collected in Two Cities (1995) and Solidarity, Solitude (1990). Zagajewski is, wrote Adam Kirsch in the New Republic, 'the preeminent Polish poet of his generation.' According to Jaroslaw Anders in the Los Angeles Times Book Review, he is 'one of the most interesting poets of his generation writing in any language.' As David Lehman noted in Newsweek in his review of Tremor, Zagajewski's poetry 'oscillates between praise . . . and pain that stubbornly resists being transformed into beauty.' Lehman singled out the following three lines to illustrate his point: 'God / is the smallest poppy seed in the world, / bursting with greatness.' As in these lines, Zagajewski often shifts in his poems from the physical object to a moment of abstraction. 'Such a quest for transcendence is essentially romantic in its impulse, but Mr. Zagajewski,' stated Eva Hoffman in the New York Times Book Review, 'is a modern romantic, in whom an attraction to quietude and to interstitial, hidden spaces often coexists with mosaics of contemporary urban detail, a taste for incongruity and a sometimes ironic reflectiveness.'

21,2009 at 400 Cedar Ave, West Long Branch, NJ 07764.
