Seaside Heights Ocean County St. Patricks Day Parade 2008
Ocean, NJ (March
15,2008) - When is the 2008 Seaside Heights, NJ St. Patricks Day Parade in Ocean County? is
happening in Ocean, New Jersey! 2008 Ocean County New Jersey Saint Patrick's Day Parade
23rd Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 12 noon on the Boulevard Seaside Heights, New Jersey
SEASIDE HEIGHTS -- Seaside Heights will be blanketed in green when the Annual Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day parade kicks-off March 15th on the Boulevard at 12 noon. John Sweeney, Lavallette, parade coordinator invites community groups to participate in the celebration by joining the line of march which is1-1/4 miles long, starting at the Seaside Park border and ending at Sherman Ave. Sweeney says, “Participating in the parade is a great opportunity to make the community aware of your organization’s presence. The parade is not just for heritage groups and those of Irish ancestry. All organizations are invited to join us.” The 63rd Army Band will lead off this year’s parade. Neptune High School Band will play both the American and Irish national anthems with the parade committee carrying the American Flag and the Women of Irish Heritage carrying the Irish Flag. The Berkeley Irish Club will carry banners representing each of the 32 counties of Ireland. Plans are still being formulated, but in prior years, champion bagpipe bands and drum and bugle corps have marched along with award winning Mummers and high school bands among the anticipated 25 musical groups. Parade co-chairs Kevin Donahue and Tom King of Toms River, estimate last year’s event drew more than 55,000 people even though the temperature hovered around 52-degrees. Forty parade marshals are needed to organize the parade route. One might ask how do they organize and march in the parade at the same time? Sweeney explains there is a talent exchange program with the Columbus Day Parade Committee, which hosts an event in October. Parade sponsors include the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, WOBM AM and WOBM FM, and Shore Point Distributors. Maria Maruca, executive director of the Seaside Heights Business Improvement District, will serve as master of ceremonies. He says, “We help each other put on our respective parades. It is fun for all involved.
To participate or for more information, call Sweeney at 732-830-1847, Donahue at 732-288-0236 or King at 732-506-7786. Sweeney states, “I am extremely proud of the growth of the parade in the past 22 years. It is a great intergenerational family event. Children, moms and dads, and grandparents all can enjoy the day cheering on the anticipated 25 bands and 75 marching groups.”
Our Parade History In 1984, a small group of Irish Americans in Ocean County, Led by Judge Damian Murray, decided to stage their own parade in Seaside Heights, NJ (Land of Sun & Fun).
Their simple philosophy was to have the most entertaining & well organized parade in the State of New Jersey.
With financial help from the Freeholders of Ocean County & the Jersey Shore Irish American Club and although the operating budget was only $3,000.00. The 1st parade was a Huge Success with over 50,000 attending.
The "wearing of the green" will be everywhere on Saturday, March 11, 2006 for the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The fun starts at 12 noon on The Boulevard. Come out and see marching bands, clowns, and lots of "green." It's a good time for the entire family. So for good old fashioned fun, join us for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Seaside Heights!!
Heritage Groups Invited to Join March Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Seaside Heights, NJ -- Heritage groups in the tri-state area are invited to the Jersey Shore's Ocean County to march in the 22nd Annual Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, celebrating the 2006 theme: America, the Great Melting Pot.
The parade route starts at the border of the seashore resort towns of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park, kicks off at 12 noon, heading north for one mile on the Boulevard. The parade lasts about two-hours and the traffic pattern permits all those who are participating to view all of the parade.
The route is two blocks from the Seaside Heights boardwalk and many of the stands, arcades and restaurants will be open for the holiday weekend. Nine motels are offering weekend packages of two nights/two breakfasts for $99. Details are available at www.americom.net/stpaddy John Sweeney, parade coordinator said, "This year’s theme was chosen to reflect what the St. Patrick’s Day parade has really become . For years we have boasted of the variety of people who march in our parade by saying that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. In reality, the parade has always been a success as a result of the cooperation of an enormous variety of people who have become working friends of our organization. This year we will celebrate that cooperation and friendship.”
"There are many activities in the area that will contribute to an enjoyable weekend, such as a production of "Once Upon a Mattress" at the Historic Strand Theatre in Lakewood, the New Jersey Museum of Boating in Pt. Pleasant Beach and the Toms River Seaport Society in Toms River. Other things to see and do are listed at www.oceancountytourism.com," Sweeney said.
Any group interested in marching in the parade can contact Sweeney by phone at 732-830-1847, by FAX at 732-793-3639 or by E-mail at j.sweeneyfafa@verizon.net. There is no charge to participate.
