SKYHAWKS RELEASE '08 SCHEDULE
Sussex, NJ (December
11,2007) - Home opener - May 22, 2008 is
happening in Sussex, New Jersey! The Sussex Skyhawks have officially released their 2008 schedule, with the opener scheduled for Thursday, May 22, 2008. Skyhawks fans’ will see a much different Can-Am League than they did in 2008. The North Shore Spirit, New Haven County Cutters and the Can-Am League road team, the Can-Am Grays, will no longer be part of the league. However, the addition of a new franchise in Ottawa, Canada will give the league a even 8-teams, creating a balanced schedule, in turn, resulting in 47 home games for the Skyhawks.
“The changes for the Can-Am League this off season are very positive”, commented Skyhawks General Manager Ben Wittkowski. “For the league, to add a franchise in a market of 1 million plus people, in a AAA level stadium, is wonderful; for the Skyhawks, to have a balanced schedule, with a real favorable lineup of home games is a real positive for us also”. Wittkowski continued, “Losing a number of Monday night games and adding more weekend games is very exciting for us. For two years, we have faced a real challenging schedule – with multiple Monday games and an extreme amount of games during the early part of the season when school is session, made it tough”.
This season, the Skyhawks will have 13 home games prior to June 26; whereas, during the 2007 season, the Skyhawks hosted 21 home games in that same time frame. In addition, the Skyhawks will only have 3 Monday night games, opposed to 6 in 2007. Skylands Park will continue to be the site of the best fireworks shows in New Jersey. The Skyhawks will host 10 incredible firework shows this season.
All games with a post game fireworks show will begin at 6:35 pm. Firework nights will take place on May 23, June 27, July 3, July 4, July 11, July 25, July 31, August 14, August 21 and the 10th show will take place during one of the Skyhawks home playoff games. Wittkowski noted, “Firework shows have been a tremendous success for us; we fully intend to make the playoffs this season, and that 10th fireworks show will quite an exciting evening”. “He added, “we are final negotiations with a manager and player procurement director, and I assure you that the additions of these people to our organization will make our community extremely proud of this professional baseball team we put on the field”. The Skyhawks promotional schedule will be released over the course of the next months. “We have put together some good promotions over the course of the last two seasons, “ noted Wittkowski. “Those promotions have focused on community outreach and groups, this season, we intend to grow on our cornerstone promotions and implement more unique themes and events that I think the fans will enjoy.” Skyhawks season tickets and mini plans are currently available.
The Skyhawks 12-game mini plan is the only was to guarantee a seat to every regular season firework show during the 2008 season. For more information on the 2008 season; fans can log onto www.sussexskyhawks.com or call 973-300-1000 x 21. . This event

Monster Truck Nationals returning to NJ in January
Mercer, NJ (January
11,2007) - A review from last year's Nationals is
happening in Mercer, New Jersey!
Big Foot and the Monster Truck Nationals will be at Sovereign Bank Arena this weekend. The show features Monster Truck racing, motocross racing, motorcycle freestyle events and of course.. monster trucks crushing cars. Its not too late to get tickets for Saturday's performances!
Friday night's performance played out to a crowd that filled about 1/3 of the seats of the 10,000 seat arena, but that didn't stop the monster truck fans from making a lot of noise.
The event started off with monster truck races, then followed by an eight lap amateur motocross race. The amateur race wasn't as interesting as the race that followed, a professional eight lap motocross race. The riders were more skilled, drove faster and competed harder in the second event.
Tuff trucks then made their appearance, three local entrants who put their homemade custom vehicles to the test. The first out the gate was a volkswagon mini station wagon which didn't fare too well, in fact, was not to be seen again for the rest of the night after nose diving into the dirt on the 4th jump.
After the race it was time for the final event in which favorite Big Foot lost to T-Maxx, however I could be mistaken. Either way it was a great race.
The night concluded with free style motocross where the riders jumped over the cars lined up and performed aerial stunts.
The evening's grand finale was each of the Monster Trucks crushing the stripped down white vehicles in the center of the ring. The crowd cheered at the destruction and the event ended on a fun note.
The show was pretty fun, however there could have been more music playing and less interruptions. The whole performance was a little over 2 hours, but I think it could have been done in an hour and a half or so.
I have been to Sovereign Bank Arena a couple of times in the past, when it first opened on business, so this was the first event I saw here. I went with my 4 year old daughter, who had an absolute blast.
The arena itself is great. There's not a bad seat in the house. Getting there was a bit of a puzzle, but thanks to a friendly person at the Trenton Titan's office we made it there ok. It's not exactly located in the nicest part of Trenton, but is very close to the major local highways.
About half way through the show, I got the "Daddy, I have to go potty!" whimper, so I clenched my teeth, walked my daughter up the stairs and was waiting for the surprises that await me behind door #1.. the men's room. I was extremely pleased to see that the arena had family bathrooms. What a relief! To me, this is the best feature of the arena and any parents with little girls would probably agree.
Parking was $6, quick and easy to get in and out. I look forward to the upcoming Disney on Ice show next month. Sovereign Bank Arena definitely gets a family friendly thumbs up from GoKidsNJ!
