TOMS RIVER The month of December glows with a variety of special performances for children (and adults, too) designed to get you in the mood for the upcoming holiday season. Music, dance, and theatre are in store for audiences at the Ocean County College Fine Arts Center Theatre, located on the Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River. Tickets are on sale.
As part of the Fine Arts Center’s Young People’s Arts Series, Ballet for Young Audiences will present The Nutcracker on Sunday, December 2 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Children and adults alike will be enthralled by the professionalism of this superb corps of classical dancers. With excellent narration, audiences will be taken on a magical journey that begins with a Nutcracker doll and ends with the Land of Sweets. In between, there is a battle with the wretched Mouse King and a meeting with the Sugarplum Fairy. Give your child the best gift a memory of this special production! Tickets: $8 in advance, $10 at-the-door.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol will inspire you with the spirit of giving when Yates Musical Theatre performs this musical children’s show on Saturday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. Scrooge, a miserable man who hates Christmas, is visited by three ghosts. They reveal, in vivid scenes, how the love of money has changed him into a lonely miser and how his selfish and bitter life affects others. He learns the fate that awaits him if he continues his miserly ways. Shocked into action by the Cratchit Family and their son Tiny Tim, he discovers the true meaning of Christmas!
