None, NJ (November
n/a,2007) - Cartoon Network announced today it has completed production on Ben 10: Race Against Time is
happening in None, New Jersey! Cartoon Network announced today it has completed production on Ben 10: Race Against Time, the live-action made-for-TV movie based on its hit animated action-adventure series about a young boy, who with the flick of a powerful alien wristwatch (The Omnitrix), can turn into 10 different aliens with amazing superpowers. Graham Phillips (Evan Almighty) stars in the coveted role of Ben Tennyson, a normal 10-year-old boy who is able to transform himself into a variety of super aliens like the powerful Heatblast or the beastly Wildmutt. Lee Majors (The Six Million Dollar Man) also stars as Grandpa Max, who uses his past experiences with the paranormal to guide and protect his grandchildren, Ben and Gwen, through their many adventures in fighting evil. Alex Winter of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure takes the helm as director for this first action-adventure movie from Cartoon Network, which will air in November.
Haley Ramm (X-Men 3) is Gwen, Ben’s level-headed 10-year-old cousin and Ben’s much needed voice of reason because despite his ability to change physically, Ben is still a kid at heart and has a little trouble figuring out how to act like a superhero when the pressure is really on. Christien Anholt (Relic Hunter), plays Eon of Chronia, Ben’s nemesis in the movie. Eon was the first alien ever captured by Max’s secret organization, “The Plumbers.” The now-escaped Eon is trying to locate the doomsday device that was taken and hidden when he was captured. The device is capable of opening a gateway to Earth, signaling the start of an alien invasion that would mark the end of humankind. Now, Ben, Gwen and Grandpa Max, with some help from The Omnitrix, are on a mission to stop Eon and save the world from total destruction!

Great Wolf Lodge Poconos Indoor Water Park Review
N/A, NJ (N/A
N/A,N/A) - What to do at Great Wolf Lodge and things to do in the Great Wolf Indoor Waterpark is
happening in N/A, New Jersey!
| |
Check room rates and availability at Great Wolf Lodge
The temperature is a brisk thirty degrees outside. Winter has settled in and we're in the middle January but we are heading for the water park! What? Too Cold? Well, not if you're going to visit the Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, Pennsylvania.
Yes, this is GoKidsNJ. Yes we do focus on what to do in New Jersey for kids and families, but there is nothing like the Great Wolf Lodge in New Jersey, so you're going to have to venture into Pennsylvania for a quick warm weather get away, right in our own backyard.
The Great Wolf Lodge is a family resort located about 30 minutes from the New Jersey border in Scotrun, Pennsylvania, near East Stroudsburg. Getting to the Lodge from Jackson, New Jersey took about 2 hours on a weekday mid morning with very little traffic.
Great Wolf Lodge is a great family destination for families with younger children (aged 1-12). They also advertise the resort as a place for business meetings, weddings and more, but I think if you go there expecting anything more than a great time with your family, you may be a little disappointed. Some trendy dot-com's might find a business retreat to Great Wolf Lodge fulfilling, but it is definitely not for corporate America.
The entire resort is geared for children. From the indoor water park, to Magic Quest to the other great children's programs they offer, it is 100% children oriented, which is why we chose to stay there to begin with.
trip advice: Come to Great Wolf Lodge with kids. If you're looking for a quiet romantic get away, you probably don't want to stay at Great Wolf Lodge.
Getting there
Getting to the lodge was easier than I had anticipated. The directions on the website were convenient and accurate.
The lodge sort of jumps out at you as you're driving down interstate 80 west into Pennsylvania. The lodge is a quick exit then a quick left turn right off the highway. When you see Camel Back Mountain, named for its 2 "Camel Humps, you will know you're getting close.
As you drive around the bend and up the mountain towards the lodge, you will pass the outside of the indoor water park and the small outdoor pool area. As you turn the corner, the sheer size of the resort is a bit overwhelming. It was definitely bigger than I thought it would be. As my daughter yelled from the back seat "Oh my gosh Daddy, look at that big log cabin!".
trip advice: Avoid rush hour traffic. Plan your trip accordingly. Rush hour traffic in certain areas of New Jersey and Pennsylvania can add up to an hour to your total trip time.
Checking in
Check room rates and availability at Great Wolf Lodge Unloading and getting a parking spot proved to be a simple and easy task. I was able to park right next to the nearest entrance to our room. The website cautions visitors to avoid checking in in right away as the lines can get pretty long on busy days. We checked in around 5:00pm (Check In begins at 4pm). If you arrive early, you are allowed to use the water park from 1:00pm on.
Check in was quick and easy. Within 5 minutes of walking through the front door, we were situated in our room and ready to get a quick night time romp in the water park in.
trip advice: Several members of the website Trip Advisor complained about long waits at check-in, so a good travel tip would be to avoid getting there at exactly 4:00 PM.
The Water Park
Bear Track Landing, the water park at Great Wolf Lodge is the main attraction at the lodge. Whether you go during the day or night, there's just so much to do crammed into this huge temperature controlled space. They keep the temperature at a warm 80 degrees around the clock. Sure, it's not Great Adventure or Morey's Piers, but it's also 30 degrees, January and the North East United States.
trip advice: The lodge provides towels at the Water Park, but you are not able to take the Water Park towels back to your room. Bring a warm cover-up or a change of clothes with you for your trek back to your room. Try to get a room as close to the Water Park as possible. You won't hear anything and you won't have to walk far when you're wet.
The toddler section, Cub Paw Pool includes Whooping Hollow, 4 slides of varying levels of difficulty, so they're great from 2-10 years old. There's a toddler water basketball court, wading pool and a couple interactive water features.
Moving up from the toddler section to Totem Towers, you have the kids play area which is a three story interactive water play area that include water cannons, buckets, ropes, bridges, the huge bucket of water that drops every few minutes and it ends at 2 intermediate slides that even the little ones can enjoy.
Next to the kids play area is Chinook Creek, a huge three to four foot deep recreation pool that includes a soft play snake floating in the pool and 4 adult sized basketball hoops.
trip advice: Parents are not allowed on the toddler slides and they are not allowed to accompany their children on the smaller slides. Start your kids off on the small slides and gradually work them up to the longer slides if they are not comfortable with waterslides. The lodge does provide life jackets for kids.
Beyond that, there is a rope climb obstacle pool where kids climb across soft-play lily pads while pulling themselves across on a rope bridge. Parents are allowed to enter the pool and assist the children across the pool, but they are not allowed to use the rope climb.
There is a small lazy river in the far corner which isn't too huge, but what would you expect in an indoor water park? The wave pool is a decent size, about 1/3 the size of the one at Hurricane Harbor. The wave pool at Bear Track Landing can get pretty rough along the edges as the waves bounce off the walls. The smaller size of the pool creates waves and turbulence which is a bit stronger than the Hurricane Harbor wave pool.
There's 4 advanced water slides for older kids and adults (although I did take my 3 year old daughter on 2 of them with me because the height requirement is 42 inches, where it is 48 in New Jersey for those slides). You can go down these slides by yourself or with another person in a two-person tube. Tubes are required on the four large slides.
trip advice: The minimum height requirement for the advanced slides is 42" and for 48" for the HydroPlunge uphill family water roller coaster. Certain toddler areas have a 48" maximum height limit.
Another great feature of the water park is two over-sized hot tubs and one is for adults only. Use caution when bringing young children into the hot tub area.
If you don't enjoy hundreds of screaming children giggling, laughing, playing and splashing, I definitely would caution you against Great Wolf Lodge. If you're here to have a great time and join in the excitement, it's the place to go in the dead of winter.
trip advice: If you're uptight about children yelling, screaming, running wild and having fun you may want to think twice about Great Wolf Lodge.
Restaurants
The Great Wolf Lodge offers 1 dining option and several snack food options throughout the lodge. The main dining area serves sandwich type food and has a buffet. The buffet is $11 for adults, $8 for children and 3 and under eat free. The food isn't quite what you would expect from such a huge resort, but on the other hand, it's not all that bad either. We would have preferred a higher scale dining option, but we survived and had a great time eating while overlooking the water park.
trip advice: You have to travel to East Stroudsburg if you want fine dining. There is a diner near the entrance of the Great Wolf Lodge, but the food is not much better than what you get at the buffet. Hotel rooms are equipped with refrigerator and microwave.
Arcade
Downstairs is a fairly good sized arcade which has everything you would expect an arcade to have. Games, air hockey, video games and more. The arcade is similar to a small boardwalk arcade you would find in New Jersey, just a tad bit cleaner.
The Staff
The staff was great. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. I did have issues with some of the kitchen staff's ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner, but this was mostly in reference to off-cuff bickering between who does what. It wasn't as bad as some of the reviews I've read, but enough to be noticed. Beyond the kitchen the waitresses were great, the concierge, cleaning personnel, life guards and other staff were extremely helpful, cheerful and great with the kids.
Kids Activities
Three times a day, there is an animatronic Tower Clock show in the main lobby for the kids. There is a Cubs Club day camp, daily scavenger hunts, night time story time pajama book reading and of course, Magic Quest at Great Wolf Lodge Poconos , an interactive fantasy adventure game/scavenger hunt that is all throughout the main area of the hotel.
trip advice: The Cubs Club is a pay per activity service. The 12 minute show at the Great Clock Towers are at 10am, 8pm and 9pm. Night time story readings are immediately after the tower clock shows at 8pm and 9pm. Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early as the area fills up quickly.
Magic Quest wands cost $15, wand toppers are optional and range from $5 to $20. Each Magic Quest game costs $9.95. Children can share a single wand and complete the adventures as a team.
Room Service
There really isn't much in the way of room service food options here if you're looking for a quick midnight snack. If you're a midnight snack addict, pack your snacks in your suitcase.
We needed extra pillows and blanket and they came within minutes of asking. Rooms and hallways were kept clean and room cleaning is available from 8 am into the early afternoon. The maintenance staff was friendly and helpful.
A great place for kids and family
As I mentioned earlier, it is January and the weather just started dipping below freezing in New Jersey, but we had a great time enjoying an artificial summer get away. The Great Wolf Lodge met our expectations and we'll be visiting again.
New Jersey has so much to do the other three seasons of the year, but nothing in New Jersey can top a weekend at the Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania.
If you think spending a few days doing nothing but enjoying a water park with dozens of other families with young children makes for a great getaway, then Great Wolf Lodge is definitely for you!

The best Wii games for the whole family
None, NJ (January
n/a,2008) - Now that you have a Wii, what are you going to do with it? is
happening in None, New Jersey! Christmas 2007 will forever be known as the War of the Wii. Parents stood in line for hours before stores opened and paid hundreds of dollars over retail price to get the Wii system for their children in time for Christmas. Now you have your Wii, what are you going to do with it?
Video game retail clerks are always asked "What are the best family games for Wii?". Many parents have complained that there are not enough games like +game+Wii Sports-game-, which comes with most systems. Moms and Dads want more action oriented games that take full advantage of the Wii controller instead of just providing another outlet to lay on the couch just like other console gaming systems.
Just because a title has the +news+Wii-news- logo on it, doesn't mean it's going to be the Wii game you expected. The unfortunate fact is that most Wii titles are just ported games (meaning they have been modified from other systems) that use the +buy+Wii-buy- controller simply as a point and click device, making the Wii nothing more than a fancy wireless mouse for a video game system.
The good news is, not all Wii games are like this. Many do take advantage of the Wii controller and in this list we have chosen our favorite 10 Wii titles that are both family friendly and will have your kids running around, spinning and flailing until they pass out!.

I have been a Mario Party lover since we rented the third one for my 64 over four years ago. The number of characters & minigames has grown since it came out for gamecube. Now, after almost a year and a half of waiting, Nintendo has once again partnered with Hudson to make the seventh sequel to one of Nintendo's best franchises, Mario Party.
To me, 8's the charm, it is my favorite thus far, with non-stop fun. There are five ways to play and very active minigames. There are 14 original characters, including the 12 returnees from Mario Party 7 (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, Daisy, Waluigi, Toad, Boo, Toadette, Birdo, & Dry Bones). Plus two unlockable newcomers, Blooper (you may remember him from Super Mario Sunshine) and Hammer Bro (has been playable from the Mario Strikers games & Mario Superstar Baseball). |

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Nintendo worlds collide in the fighting game that features a number of characters that have appeared on Nintendo platforms, from Mario to Link to Pikachu...to Solid Snake. As they square off in locales drawn from the history of Nintendo anything can happen. Smash Bros. features limitless customizing options, items and weapons and a wealth of modes. Included is a sprawling adventure mode called "The Subspace Emissary" that's a full game in and of itself. Players jump and brawl their way through enemy-packed side-scrolling levels, meeting up with other characters and watching cinematic cut-scenes. Brawl with your friends across the country using WiiConnect24. Going online allows up to four players to brawl, no matter where they are (release 2/08) |

MLB Power Pros A solid A+! This is the most fun I've had playing a sports video game since the old Ken Griffey Jr. game on the N64 counsel. And the best thing about it is its multiple modes make it enjoyable for all different levels of gamers. It's simpler wii sports-esqe mode makes for great out of the box playability and good fun for the more casual gamers, and makes for a decent party game. Meanwhile, the more complex season and exhibition modes provide a remarkably in depth baseball game that lets you control just about every aspect of a team you could imagine. The detail they put into these modes is amazing. Don't be fooled by the kiddie graphics, this is a true baseball game that any fan of the sport will enjoy. And if that's not enough, they throw the delightfully quirky success mode, which allows you to control the fate of a college player. This mode is good fun and is far more addictive than one would expect. Over all it's a great game and I would recommend it to any baseball fan. |

Super Paper Mario Super Paper Mario is a genius combination of a old-school side-scroller and a RPG. When you flip, it's like a whole new game! The controls are perfect for the wii remote, and the dialougue is often funny. With four members of you team, Mario, who can flip, Peach, who can glide with her umbrella, Bowser, who can breathe fire and has double attack power, and Luigi, who has super jump capabilities. It also has an amazing ending *SPOILER ALERT* In-between chapters, when the screen goes black and there is a conversation between Timpani and Bluimire, well, Timpani is actually Tippi, the PIXL, and Bluimire is.......COUNT BLECK!!!! |

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess I've played every major Zelda game (where Link has to battle Ganon), and this game is the best Zelda game I ever played! What I liked about the game was that the dungeons were awesome, the boss fights were so much fun, and the side quests in this game were great. Sure Midna gets a little annoying, but she grew on me. What I liked about the game the best was the overall game play for the Wii (easy to adjust too), the great story line (I felt like I was in a long movie), and that the programers made improvements on what worked, and got rid of the aspects that did not (I'm so glad they got rid of the cartoon type style they had in Wind Walker). That being said, this game has a darker storyline and can be kind of complex, parents, I would suggest getting this for a kid that has a lot of patience and a long attention span. |

Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour Just got this for Christmas for my 8 year old (going on 13, it seems) Hannah Montana fan. She loves it. You use the wii remote and the nunchuck remote to dance along as Hannah either in concert or backstage practicing. The dancer (player) is required to move her (or his) arms certain directions and at the right time while dancing along to the various Hannah songs. You follow along the bottom of the screen, to figure out what to do with your arms. It's similar to those dance games at the arcades that have those moving arrows, but this is just with your arms. There's a tutorial that is very helpful and easy to understand. Other things you can do as Hannah: Go shopping, change your clothes and hair, and some other mini games like signing autographs. You earn fans by how well you perform, and that is what gives you points to buy new clothes and earn more songs to sing. Overall, a good game that is easy to catch on to and very fun |

Winter Sports We are relatively new to the Wii so I can't compare it to all of the games out there, but I can say that so far it is a blast for our family and a clear favorite for both the adults and kids. We have played the speed skating, downhill skiing and the luge games and are already addicted.
The games vary in difficulty and in types of actions--we are still trying to make it down the slopes without wiping out multiple times but the speed skating is fairly easy just a lot of action in the arms. We are enjoying the variety and we still have many games to explore.
I should also add that so far all of the games have a two-player option with a split screen so you are competing against each other. You can see your opponent whiz by or vice versa as you are racing.
The realistic/human-like players are nice too. This is not cartoony like Mario but has more life-like graphics. You can't select your player's looks but you can choose the country you are competing for. |

Building on the success of both Lego Star Wars videogames, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga enables families to play through the events of all six Star Wars movies in one videogame for the first time ever. Developer Traveller's Tales has brought the action to the Nintendo Wii, with motion-sensitive inputs that give you exciting new ways to control your Lego Star Wars characters, while also adding new characters, new levels and new features. This game is the best! It has more playing time than Mario Olympics and Crash of the Titans combined (both games received at Christmas). My 8 year old and 5 year old are playing this as much as possible, and what's great is my 8 year old hasn't beat it yet! Great that the second player (my 5 year old) can come and go in the game play without any hassles! All the lego figures and things are really cool to watch too. Definitely a close second to Guitar Hero III in my house, great game! Finally the Wii is getting a lot of use! |
