Our Picks for the best family activities in New Jersey
2008 GoKidsNJ Editor's Choice AwardsThe first annual GoKidsNJ Editor's Choice Awards
We have been doing GoKidsNJ for 4 years now and we feel we've been to enough places and seen enough things to make our first round of editor's choice awards. When choosing our picks, we took the following things into consideration: Cost, Location, Fun Level, Cleanliness, Kid Friendliness, Safety and how well suited the places are for younger children.
Best Amusement Park Storybook Land Sure, it doesn't have looping coasters or a water park, but Storybook is our favorite amusement park for the kids. It is hands down the cleanest and safest of the amusement parks in New Jersey for young children. If you have not yet taken your child to Storybook Land, you're missing out on a great day.
Best place at the shore Wildwood The Wildwood boardwalk is just huge. There's something for everyone and it offers a completely safe, clean and fun family environment. You have your choice of 3 water parks, 4 amusement piers and miles of arcades, restaurants and gift shops. Last year Wildwood hosted family fun days. If you want a weekend getaway for the whole family, Wildwood is where you want to be.
Best NJ Sports Team Lakewood BlueClaws New Jersey has many baseball teams, but the Lakewood Blueclaws shine when it comes to community outreach and catering to the kids. A day at the Blue Claws game is like a day at the park as they have many attractions that cater to young children including an air-play playground, located down the left field line behind the stands.
The Most Fun Rainy Day Place Garden State Discovery Museum Located in Cherry Hill, NJ the Garden State Discovery Museum is an interactive imagination wonderland for children. The museum is broken down into sections that include many levels of interactive play from a mini basketball stadium and floor hockey arena to a fully functional play diner. Children's imaginations can run wild after a day at the Garden State Discovery Museum.
The Most Fun Hot Summer Day Place Breakwater Beach, Seaside Heights New Jersey has many waterparks. Some are huge some are small. Breakwater Beach may not be the largest water park in New Jersey, but we've found it to be the cleanest and most fun for young children. It is conveniently located across the street from the Seaside Heights Casino Pier and beach. Steel drum music is played throughout the day and there's just something about Breakwater Beach that we don't get at the other water parks.
Weirdest place for Kids Insectropolis The last place you want to be is in a building infested with cockroaches, ants, spiders and other icky sticky insects. You'd be surprised at how much fun kids have at Insectropolis, a bug museum located in Toms River, NJ. The staff here is warm friendly and the owner is always eager to come out and share his love of insects with the children.
Best place to see a kids show Sovereign Bank Arena If you want to see Disney on Ice, Dora, Sesame Street Live or any of the other dozens of children's tours that pass through NJ each year, there's no better place than Sovereign Bank Arena. The arena is easy to get to. Parking is very affordable and convenient. The arena is clean, somewhat new and there's not a bad seat in the whole house. We like SBA most because it is never overcrowded like other arenas and the events are usually cheaper.
Best Person to have at your birthday party Yosi If you want a fun party with music and dancing, you want to have Yosi. Yosi packages his blend of silly music with recognizable themes and a punk edge that will have all the kids at the party hopping, dancing and moshing around. Yosi can be seen nearly every weekend in the summer with his band the Superdads or by himself at one of New Jersey's many fun places. If you want to book Yosi, plan WAY in advance as he gets booked up very quickly.
