Mrs. Gould Welcomes Kate Smith
Ocean, NJ (September
09,2009) - At Georgian Court University is
happening in Ocean, New Jersey! Kathryn Elizabeth Smith was born in 1907 in rural Virginia. She performed locally in theaters and nightclubs and was discovered by a New York City show producer in 1926. She was featured in the musical comedy Honeymoon Lane on Broadway and later in Hit the Deck and Flying High. Columbia Records put her on the radio in 1931. She was an immediate success on the air and later on television, hosting a series of music and talk shows into the 1950s. In 1943, she sang “God Bless America” in the Irving Berlin picture This Is the Army. Berlin regarded this song as his most important composition. Internationally known, Kate remained a determined, single woman and will share her stories of success and challenges with Mrs. Gould. Six Flags Great Adventure and MGM Studios Host FAME National Talent Search August 8 and 9 One Talented Performer Will Get A Chance At FAME During Auditions at Six Flags Great Adventure Think you have what it takes to be a star? Here's your shot! Auditions at Six Flags Great Adventure will be held on Saturday, August 8 from 9:30am - 12:30pm. The FAME National Talent Search at Six Flags is looking for the nation's most talented performers ranging from singers, dancers, actors, you name it. The Fame National Talent Search at Six Flags kicked off at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio on Saturday, July 18. The multi-city, six-week search continued at Six Flags St. Louis and Six Flags Over Texas. Next up, Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Great America (up to 400 will audition). One Finalist or Final Group from each of the 6 participating parks will be selected to compete in front of a panel of celebrity judges in the Finals on Saturday, September 5 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. One winner or winning group will walk away with a life-changing Grand Prize: • One cash prize of $5,000 • A photo spread in OK! The Semi-Finals Show will take place on: • Sunday, August 9 at Six Flags Great Adventure at 3:00pm with a special performance by V-Factory with FAME 's Asher Book Those in-park and mail-in entrants invited to compete in The FAME National Talent Search Semi-Finals Show will receive free park admission. Also, the show will be open to all park guests so friends and family are welcome to attend, but family and friends must pay for park admission.
