Terror unleashed at Six Flags

Jackson, NJ – This past weekend, the Awakening rang in the 2009 Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.    At 6pm each night this month, Great Adventure rises from the dead as the 18th annual Fright Fest has begun.

The party starts with the Awakening of Dr. Fright, the Master of Ceremony and host of the largest Halloween party in the area.    As the funeral procession makes its way through the park, Dr. Fright is awakened on the stage at the Big Wheel once again this year.  Prior to 2008, the awakening took place at the bloody fountain.

The entire theme park is decorated, although not as lavishly as in previous years and transformed into an all-night haunting ground where ghouls, zombies, freaks and undead roam the park chasing guests and scaring the life out of them.

Along with the roaming actors, three sections have been converted into haunted midways including the Lakeside Graveyard and the Circus Psycho, where escaped mental patients have been set free in the boardwalk section of the park.

The main attraction at Fright Fest is Dead Man’s Party, celebrating it’s 10th year of production.  The musical zombie laden stage show has grown to become an attraction in itself and draws freaks and fiends from the entire northeast United States for performances.   The show has built up a huge fan following over the years that has reached a near cult status.

New in 2009 is a Michael Jackson tribute show at the bloody fountain called The Ghoulmaster’s Ghosts.  The Dolphin Discovery’s Voyage to Voodoo Island is also a crowd favorite as the park’s aquatic residents put on a frighteningly good show.

There’s lots to do and see at Fright Fest each night at Great Adventure and if you have younger children, don’t worry, there are plenty of safe havens for them and park staff issues ghoul repellent whistles which will protect them from the most evil demons in the park.

Check back regularly for updates on this year’s Fright Fest including video, reviews, photos and helpful guides to help you get through another ghoulish fest at Great Adventure.  Fright Fest runs until November 1st this year.
